Summer 2020 Tournament Schedule

Following the guidelines of the CDC regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus, the cities of Laurel, Maryland and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware have suspended all permits for special events. Unfortunately, this means that all our Grass Volleyball tournaments except Labor Day (Sep 5-6) have been cancelled. Registration fees will be fully refunded. MAV will continue to monitor the situation with our host partners and will update our schedule as necessary. MAV encourages everyone to follow the guidelines of state and local governments. Be safe and stay healthy!

All participants in MAV Grass tournaments must be members of AVP America. Memberships to AVP America cost $20 per person annually. MAV will lower our 2020 Sandbaggers Tournament registration team fee by $20 per player in order to cover your membership fee into AVP America for the 2020 season.
MAV will also offer a $10 per player discount to any player who participates in their first
MAV tournament of the 2020 season with proof of their recent membership into AVPA.

 

REGISTRATION POLICIES: Online and mailed registrations are accepted until 10PM on the Wednesday before the tournament day. Teams missing the deadline can register on-site. Teams who register at the tournament site will be charged an on-site registration fee of $15 per team. MAV and its tournament directors reserve the right to exclude teams that show up late (AFTER 8:30am). Any team that shows up late may lose its position in the tournament and will not receive a refund. Any team that does not show for a tournament will not receive a refund.

REFUND POLICY: Teams who wish to cancel from a tournament, may do so by 6:00 PM, Wednesday before the tournament. The team will receive their entry fee returned by check regardless of form of payment.

RAIN POLICY: In case of inclement weather, MAV will leave a taped message, at (240) 393-3488 and statements in our Twitter and Facebook accounts, regarding the status of the tournament. If a tournament is cancelled prior to its start, participants will receive a coupon good for any subsequent MAV tournament. Coupons will be mailed to all pre-registered participants within 10 business days after the tournament and must be used within 1 year of issue. If a tournament is in doubt, players are responsible for showing up at the site for a determination. If you do not show, you risk losing your entry fee. Once a tournament has started, refunds or certificates will not be given. MAV reserves the right to reschedule any tournament due to inclement weather, however, players will be offered tournament coupons for any rescheduled event. MAV and its tournament directors will be the final judge on the disposition of a tournament. Tournaments may be suspended due to field conditions or local environmental conditions (i.e. lightening, pollution alerts, high temperatures).

FORFEIT POLICY: If any team forfeits more than one match, they will be disqualified for the tournament and all of their games will revert to a 15-0 or 11-0 score. Any team who fails to be at their net, on time (the published start time for the tournament or 10 minutes after the completion of the previous match), shall forfeit the match. Attending teams (opponent and work team) shall make every effort to find the team by announcing the team name or the name of the players to the surrounding area.
FINES: Any team that leaves early, prior to their final match or their last work match, shall be subject to a fine of not more than $10 per player.

Tournament Tips

Check-in is from 7:45 to 8:30AM.

Play starts at 9:00 AM.

Please plan on being at the tourney until dusk.

All players must be present to sign the waiver at the time of check-in.

Tournament format: Pool play with the top two teams advancing to playoffs for divisions with more than one net.

No playoffs for divisions with only one net.

Bring your own ball

Bring plenty of food and drinks (water or sports drinks).

Sunscreen is a must.

Chairs and blankets can make in-between match time more comfy and umbrellas, tents or canopies can shield you from the hot sun.
